He started his professional writing career in 1993 as a journalist, and later managing editor, at information publishers HWW. As well as honing his writing chops, Charles’s first and only salaried position gave him a valuable apprenticeship in project managment and marketing.
Back in 1995, while at HWW, Charles also made his first foray into writing for the web. Deciding to go freelance and specialise in online copywriting in 1997 makes him one of Australia’s most experienced website copywriters.
He has written website content for dozens of businesses, including large multinational corporations such as American Express, eBay and Vodafone, as well as small businesses and solo professionals.
Charles spent three years getting a marketing degree from the University of NSW, but learnt more about marketing from reading Guerrilla Marketing by Jay Conrad Levinson.
Reading this book started Charles’s quest to learn about low-cost, high-impact marketing techniques that he could leverage in his own business and for his clients.
Being an enthusiastic life-long learner, he keeps up to date with the latest tactics in online marketing. His clients don’t have to read every book, email newsletter and blog post, because Charles does and knows what’s working.
When he’s not writing copy, devising practical business growth strategies or reading up on the latest online marketing techniques, you might find Charles surfing his local break or working on his latest photography book.
